Privacy Policy

How SabahBusiness collects, uses, protects and manages information when you use our business directory and related services.

Last updated: 21 August 2026

1. Who We Are & Introduction

This Privacy Policy applies to SabahBusiness.com.my (“SabahBusiness”, “we”, “us” or “our”). SabahBusiness respects the privacy of visitors, registered users, business owners and authorised representatives who use our business directory and related services.

This Policy explains the types of information we may collect, how we use and disclose it, how we protect it, and the choices and rights that may be available to you. It should be read together with our Terms & Conditions and any specific privacy or service notices presented when you use a particular feature.

2. Scope of This Privacy Policy

This Policy applies to information processed through SabahBusiness.com.my and related account, listing, claim, Business Dashboard, review, enquiry, advertising, payment-verification and support functions.

It does not govern independent third-party websites, banking applications, social media platforms or other external services that operate under their own privacy policies.

3. Information We May Collect

Depending on how you use SabahBusiness, we may collect information such as:

  • account information, including name, username and email address;
  • business listing information, including business name, category, description, location, contact information, opening information, images and other listing content;
  • information provided when claiming or managing a business listing;
  • reviews, ratings, comments, messages, enquiries, support requests and other content you submit;
  • plan, order, invoice, payment-reference and payment-verification information;
  • advertising or promotional campaign information;
  • technical information such as IP address, browser or device information, user-agent information, pages visited and referring information where collected by our systems or authorised service providers; and
  • other information you voluntarily provide when communicating with SabahBusiness.

4. Business Listings & Public Information

SabahBusiness is a public business directory. Information included in a published business listing may be visible to website visitors and search engines. This can include business name, category, general location or address, business contact details, description, opening information, images, website or social links, reviews and other information intended for public display.

Business owners and authorised representatives should avoid submitting private personal information that is not intended to be publicly displayed as part of a business listing.

5. Accounts, Login & Business Dashboard

Registered users may receive access to an account or Business Dashboard. We process account information to authenticate users, provide dashboard functions, manage listings, display available account tools, maintain account security and provide support.

Technical information such as IP address, browser or device information may also be processed in connection with login, account security, password-reset requests, fraud prevention and abuse detection where applicable.

Dashboard features may include listings, messages or enquiries, invoices, reviews, advertising, events, coupons and other tools where available. Features and information displayed may vary according to account status and listing plan.

6. Listing Claims & Verification

When a person asks to claim or manage an existing business listing, we may request information reasonably necessary to assess whether that person is the business owner or an authorised representative.

This information may be used to assess claims, prevent unauthorised control of listings, resolve ownership or authority disputes and protect platform integrity.

7. Reviews, Comments, Ratings & User Content

When users submit reviews, comments, ratings, recommendations or other contributions, we may process information entered in the relevant form together with technical information such as IP address and browser user-agent information where collected for security, moderation, spam prevention or abuse detection.

Public contributions may be displayed according to the relevant feature. Users should not include unnecessary personal, confidential or sensitive information in public reviews or comments.

User submissions may be checked or processed using automated spam, fraud or abuse-detection tools where such services are enabled.

8. Media Uploads & Image Metadata

Businesses and users may be able to upload photographs, logos or other media. Users should avoid uploading images containing unnecessary embedded location information, such as EXIF GPS data, or other metadata they do not intend to share.

Depending on how media is processed, displayed or downloaded, embedded metadata may potentially remain accessible. You are responsible for ensuring that uploaded media does not disclose information you do not wish to make available and that you have the necessary rights to upload it.

9. Enquiries, Messages & Business Communications

Where SabahBusiness provides enquiry, messaging, lead, appointment or similar communication functions, information you submit may be transmitted or made available to the relevant listed business so that it can respond.

The receiving business may independently process information it receives. Users should provide only information reasonably necessary for the enquiry or requested service.

10. Payments & Payment Verification

For paid listings, advertising or other paid services, SabahBusiness may process order information, selected service or plan, amount due, invoice information, transaction reference, payment status and payment proof supplied for verification.

Where Maybank QR or direct bank transfer is offered, payment is completed through your banking provider. SabahBusiness does not require you to provide your online-banking password, PIN or other banking login credentials.

Payment information and proof may be used to identify the relevant order, confirm payment, prevent fraud, maintain financial records, handle payment enquiries and activate the applicable service. For payment enquiries or receipt submission, contact payment@sabahbusiness.com.my.

11. How We Use Information

We may use information where reasonably necessary to operate and secure SabahBusiness; create and manage accounts and dashboards; publish and manage listings; process listing claims; provide available listing plans and services; process orders and verify payments; provide advertising services; facilitate enquiries; moderate user content; respond to support and rights requests; detect fraud, spam, abuse and security threats; understand and improve platform performance; and comply with applicable legal, accounting or dispute-resolution requirements.

12. Cookies & Similar Technologies

SabahBusiness may use cookies and similar technologies for login sessions, account authentication, “Remember Me” functionality where selected, user preferences, security, fraud prevention and website functionality. Temporary cookies may also be used to determine browser capabilities or maintain a session.

We may use analytics or measurement technologies to understand website usage, traffic and performance. Where required by applicable law, appropriate notice or choice will be provided for non-essential technologies.

You may be able to block or delete cookies through your browser settings, although doing so may affect login, account preferences or other website functions.

13. Embedded Content from Other Websites

Pages or listings may include or link to embedded content such as videos, images, maps, social media content or other external resources. Embedded content may behave as though you visited the third-party website directly.

Those third parties may collect information, use cookies or similar technologies, and measure your interaction according to their own privacy policies and settings. SabahBusiness does not control the independent privacy practices of those third parties.

14. Advertising & Measurement

SabahBusiness may display promotional content or advertising and may offer advertising services to businesses. We may process campaign, placement, interaction or aggregated performance information to operate, measure and improve these services.

If third-party advertising or measurement services are used, their processing may also be subject to their own privacy terms and applicable consent or notice requirements.

15. When Information May Be Shared

We may disclose information where reasonably necessary to publish information intentionally submitted for public display; send an enquiry to the relevant business; work with service providers supporting hosting, email, security, analytics or other platform operations; investigate fraud, spam, abuse, security incidents, rights complaints or disputes; comply with applicable law or lawful requests; or protect users, businesses and platform integrity.

We do not sell personal data merely because a user creates an account or business listing.

16. Third-Party Services & External Links

SabahBusiness may link to business websites, maps, social media, videos, payment or banking services and other third-party resources. When you use an external service, the third party’s own privacy policy and terms may apply.

17. Data Retention

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, to provide and maintain services, maintain legitimate business and transaction records, resolve disputes, prevent fraud or abuse, enforce agreements and meet applicable legal or regulatory requirements.

Retention periods may differ according to the type of information and service. Public listing or user-contribution information may remain available while there is a legitimate directory, moderation or record-keeping purpose, subject to valid correction, removal and legal requests.

18. Data Security

SabahBusiness uses reasonable administrative and technical measures intended to protect information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration or disclosure. However, no internet transmission, website or electronic storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Users are responsible for protecting their account credentials and should contact us if they believe their account or information has been compromised.

19. Your Choices & Privacy Rights

Subject to applicable Malaysian law and relevant exceptions, you may have rights concerning your personal data, including requesting access or correction and, where applicable, withdrawal of consent, restriction, deletion or a copy of personal data held about you.

Where technically available and legally applicable, we may provide information in an appropriate form in response to a verified request. A deletion request does not require us to erase information that we are permitted or required to retain for administrative, transaction, legal, fraud-prevention or security purposes.

We may need to verify your identity or authority before acting on a request, particularly where the request concerns a business listing or another person’s information.

20. Marketing Communications

Where SabahBusiness sends optional promotional or marketing communications, preferences and opt-out requests will be handled in accordance with applicable requirements. Service, security, account, payment, listing or administrative communications may still be sent where reasonably necessary to operate a service you use.

21. Children’s Privacy

SabahBusiness is intended as a business directory and business-services platform and is not designed primarily for children. Users should not knowingly submit a child’s personal information to public listings, reviews or other public areas unless there is a lawful and appropriate reason to do so.

If you believe a child’s personal information has been submitted inappropriately, please contact us so the matter can be assessed.

22. Business Transfers & Organisational Changes

If the operation or ownership of SabahBusiness, or relevant business assets, is reorganised, transferred or acquired, information may be transferred as part of that transaction where lawful and subject to appropriate protection and applicable notice requirements.

23. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as SabahBusiness develops, services change or applicable requirements evolve. The “Last updated” date will be revised when a new version is published.

Where a change requires additional notice or consent under applicable law, we will take appropriate steps before the relevant processing occurs.
